GARDEN PHOTO
CONTEST WINNER!

More than two hundred photographs were submitted by fifty-two contestants from Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Virginia for the New Hope Historical Society’s first Garden Photo competition. A wide variety of subjects from cherry trees to hummingbirds and Elizabethan gardens, to poppies and katydids and milkweeds created a lot of work for the six judges of the competition.
And when all the judges completed their evaluations, a stunning close-up of an intense preying mantis won them over. Jerry Huber-Gibson’s intriguing photo of the bright green dictygtera dominated the field.
The first place winner will receive a $100 gift certificate for New Hope Photo, an autographed copy of Derek Fell’s popular book, Beautiful Bucks County, two tickets for the annual garden tour and a limited edition crystal pearl clematis bracelet created by New Hope artist, Pearl Mintzer. The total value of the package is $200.
Robert Cannon’s brilliant photo, Autumn in Color, Bushkill Falls, gained second place. He will receive the Beautiful Bucks Countybook, two tickets for the garden tour and the bracelet.
A spectacular pink flower with blue insect photo called Borrowed and Blue by Nicole Lombardi won the competition’s third place prizes including Derek Fell’s book and two tickets to the garden tour.
As an added bonus, all winners will receive complimentary admission to the annual spring garden party to be held on June 13 at the Parry Mansion in New Hope, where winning photos will be displayed with the awarded ribbons. The photo competition was held in conjunction with the New Hope Historical Society’s 18th Annual Garden Tour.
Judges for the photo contest include National Geographic Magazine photographer, Bob Krist; Derek Fell, author of Flower and Garden Photography; Gian Luiso, retired fashion, advertising and newspaper photographer; Pearl Mintzer, designer, photographer and digital artist, Ted Nichols, owner of New Hope Photo Shop and award-winning digital photo lab; and Wendy Paton, award-winning fine art photographer.
